The American Red Cross GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow™ course provides youth, ages 11 to 14, with a foundation of lifeguarding and life skills.
This program makes an ideal transition between the advanced Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and the Waterfront Lifeguard Training Course.

Course Description:
Guard Start participants learn how to prevent drowning and diving accidents. They will also improve their stroke mechanics and gain strength and physical fitness. They are taught basic first aid, CPR/AED, and professionalism.

Prerequisites:
• The ability to swim the front crawl for 25 yards, breathing to the front or side
• Tread water for one minute using arms and legs
• Swim while submerged for a distance of 10 feet.
