Grand Cayman Freedom Trip
grandcayman

Celebrate your freedom! Spend Independence Day diving the crystal clear waters on the North Wall of Grand Cayman! We will be staying at Cobalt Coast Resort in Boatswains (pronounced: bo'suns) Bay and will be diving with Divetech which is located on the property. This resort and dive operation were rated as #1 in the Caribbean by Rodale's Scuba Diving Magazine and #1 in the world by the Rodale's readers poll!

The resort is known for it's laid back comfort and the delicious cuisine at Dupples Restaurant.  Our accomodations will be oceanfront, one or two-bedroom suites. They feature a wet bar, refrigerator, coffee maker, cable TV, free WiFi and more!

We will make two dives each day on the north wall from either "Ten ATA" or "ATAtude", Divetech's custom dive boats. The dive package also includes unlimited shore diving at Cobalt Coast Resort's pristine 6000 foot deep wall or at their new shore diving location, Lighthouse Point. Tech divers will have the opportunity to dive the wreck of the "Carrie Lee" which hangs over the wall at 260 feet!

In addition to the diving, we will be in close proximity to the Botswain's Beach recreational facility and the Cayman Island Turtle Farm. The schedule is flexible and allows plenty of time for relaxing at Cobalt Coast, visiting famous Seven Mile Beach, or touring the island throughout the week. On Friday, we will organize a group trip to Hell and a visit to Georgetown.

Trip Itinerary

July 3 (Sat) - We arrive at Grand Cayman and take a shuttle to the Cobalt Coast Resort.  We will have a group orientation and then check into our suites. Next, grab your gear and head for the dive center. We will make a shore dive to check weighting, cameras and flashes, and "get into the groove" for diving the next day.  Enjoy a relaxing dinner and, afterwards, watch the sunset with a complimentary rum punch, courtesy of Arie Barendrecht, our host.

July 4 (Sun) - Declare your independence from the day to day life back home and make as many dives as you want! You will be scheduled for either two morning or afternoon boat dives and the rest of the day is up to you.  Our staff will announce when and where they will be shore diving and you are welcome to dive along.

July 5 (Mon) - By now, the realization that you are away from it all should be setting in - no phones, no texts, no meetings, no complaints! You are in control and decide just how much diving fun you can stand! Make 2 boat dives plus three shore dives or more!

July 6 (Tue) - In addition to boat dives, be sure to check out the Lighthouse Point beach

dives. Today would be a good day! The site features a mini-wall from 30 - 60 feet just minutes from shore, and access to the deep wall only 10 minutes off shore. There are multiple wave notches, chutes, overhangs and pinnacles!

July 7 (Wed) - Eat, sleep, dive - by now you've established a routine. Mix it up by adding in an excursion to Botswain's Beach to the boat and shore dives. Or perhaps a stroll down seven mile beach. Warning! There are seven miles of beach bars too, so walk responsibly!! Consider electing a "designated walker".

July 8 (Thu) - How about joining us for a dawn dive? By now you've made a night dive or two. Check out the reef as the critters wake up! Then on to the boats, the beach or wherever. Anyone up for seven dives today?

July 9 (Fri) - Two boat dives are scheduled for the morning and you may be able to squeak in a shore dive or two before your "no fly" cutoff. We depart on Saturday so the last dive must be 24 hours before departure. This afternoon we will arrange for group transportation to visit Hell, the Turtle Farm, and a little power shopping downtown.

July 10 (Sat) - Catch the last Cayman sunrise or just hide your head under the pillows and pretend this day never came! We enjoy our last oceanside breakfast before we head to the airport and begin our journey home.

Note: When making you air travel plans, your destination airport is Grand Cayman Airport (GCM). Plan to arrive before noon (or shortly after) on day of arrival and plan your departure from Grand Cayman after noon. The itinerary is typical and may vary due to weather or safety conditions or simpy because you have a lot of freedom in what you want to do!
